This week produced mixed results at the State Capitol for
pro-taxpayer and pro-freedom legislation.
By a vote of 16-12, the Senate passed the "Parental
Educational Choice Grant Program" that would give parents the freedom to choose
the best education for their children. The measure now goes to the House
of Representatives. Please contact your state representative and urge them to
support school choice in the House of Representatives.
Two Senate Republicans joined with their Democrat
counterparts to oppose school choice. Please contact these
two Republicans and the Democrats and urge them to support pro-educational
policies in the future. The two Republicans who joined the
Democrats are:
Unfortunately, HCR2029, the Taxpayer Bill of Rights
failed on the House floor. Twelve Republicans united with the
Democrats to vote down this fiscally conservative,
pro-economic growth legislation.
Below are the twelve Republicans who joined the
Democrats. Please contact their offices (Republicans and
Democrats) and urge them to support pro-taxpayer legislation in the
future.
Still up for a vote is SCR1020, the
"Budget Stabilization Act," sponsored by "Friend of the
Taxpayer" Sen. Dean Martin. This is essentially the Senate version of the
Taxpayer Bill of Rights. Please contact your state senator and
ask him or her to support SCR1020.
